Cliff's former fiancee, Connie, returns to town. She has gained a lot of weight from depressive eating and she has a major chip on her shoulder from being stood up at the altar.
Cliff invites her and her family over for dinner to explain that he's gay. He encounters a stumbling block when Connie says that the only way she could talk them into coming over was to tell them Cliff was going to announce their engagement.
Cliff announces that he's gay and apologizes profusely for the pain he's put her and her whole family through.
